GENRE / ATMOPHERE

The tone of this opening sequence to this movie is that it’s going to be a sci-fi movie through the way that the narrator describes it to be in our future. The first part of this scene was made using special effects this is easy to tell because the opening shot is of our plant from space which is no longer green but gray and as the narrator is talking there is a fleet of spaceships leave our plant then you get pitcher of other plants that have gen made using special effects as well. The second part of the opening scene is filmed with unharnessed colure making every thing look brighter then usual. The mode in the opening scene is airy from the way the narrator speaks in a clam, controlled way, it makes it seem like there is something to hide. This foreshadows the plot of the story.

  1. Good start: you are beginning to think about tone and genre here. Be as specific as possible: how do you know that it is part of the science fiction genre? What film techniques are used? It would be a good idea to describe how this atmosphere and genre are created by the director, starting at the very beginning of the film. Look at the exemplar from O Tamaiti to get some ideas about how to add more information to your discussion.

  2. Looking good: move on to C. Choose four techniques that are used in this opening scene and write a post on each. Check my blog for some more ideas on what to include in each post-- describe, explain, analyse.
