TECHNOLOGY

Camera Work
  • Mostly stand still
  • Single frame shots
  • Use small kids train set to move the camera in a curve
  • Keep at table level by blu-tacking it to the table
Editing

  • I used Adobe Premiere Pro to sequence my pictures and edit my music
  • I imported the pitchers of a USB which i downloaded the pictures onto of the camera
  • I shrunk the pictures down in the time line to a size that allowed the characters to look as if they were moving
  • I placed each individually picture in line so the program would run through them simultaneously add music and took out the first part of the song to get to the lyrics sooner
  • I also got the music from a USB which i downloaded from my personal collection

Evaluation

The process did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. It took a couple of times to get the pace of the pictures right and I did not get to edit as much as I would have wanted to, but overall I am relatively pleased with the presentation. If I had more time to film I would have re-done my first scene again and edited the music to fit the animation while adding sound effects. I believe that in post-production I managed to get everything done with plenty of time so there would be nothing I would change there.

Task 4: Crew and Talent

For my film entrance I don’t need any crew except for myself due to the fact that its mainly silent and its stop motion so it does not have any actors.

TREATMENT

The sound of heavy breathing stats and last for five seconds then the music starts and the image fades in. You see a close up of an arm completely in black caring a knife. The hand comes down and the knife precise the body and blood oozes out, the hand lets go and the knife stays there sticking out of the victim’s body. The image fads out and as it does the heavy breathing dose as well. The next part of the scene is the image of a detective in a brown coat and brown hat looking at the victim that still has the knife sticking out of her chest, the detective moves around the victim examining the body and the camera moves with him. The scene fades out and as the scene goes dark the breathing starts up again the next part of the scene fades in you see a girl standing in the middle of the shot. To the left side the shot you see half of the killer then the killer moves slowly out of the scene and the girl look around. But as she doses this the killer comes out the other side of the shot behind the victim. The camera zooms into the back of the victim as the killer stabs his new victim and blood runs out. The killer catches her and places her on the ground leaving the scene slowly. The shot fades out as well as the heavy breathing. we come to the scene where you see the to be victim and the detective looking at the dead body the camera rotates around the scene and the fades outs, the heaving breathing starts again. The final part of the scene starts out exactly the same as the previous killing part of the scene. The new victim dose not turn round but walks to the right the camera moves with her. Then the killer comes in from the right side of the shot knife ready the victim brings up her hands up in a gasp. The camera zooms in but this time on the killers back where you see a gun held to his back. It zooms out and you see the detective holding the gun. It cuts out and you here a gun shot.

CONCEPT FOR MY MOVIE STARTER

The film genre that i am thinking about making a starter for is a Slasher-Horror, it’s going to be the basic stereotypical story line of the type of film. I hope to be able to explore the world of stop motion animation with clay. I hope people will find it funny, understand how complex it is to make stop motion animation and how the story line in the movie might play out, making it more shocking if there is a twist at the end. I want my audience to understand what genre and what stile it’s going to be before the film has even started. The basic story line of a Slasher-Horror would be, that there was a killer and he kills a girl and then a detective comes and try’s to investigate but in the meantime another girl dies and then the  killer try’s to kill another girl and the detective comes in and stops the killer, saving the day.

Analyse

The film 'The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari', female victum jane was - as i have already said - exacly what the adianced at the time expected from a woman. This has devaliped over time as woman have become more independent. Comparing Jane to Cidny from the film 'Scream' a more racent horrore film, the differinces is not in the charicter, but in the charicters reachins. You can see the chang from Frankenstein's victum Elizabith to Cat People's Irena who was both victum and vilan, even up to Rosemary's Baby where Rosemary can't help but stay away from the evil in her life. the world has changed and with it the film indrustry has had to chage. the audiances of the world will always want to see somthing difernt from the film industry and this is why in my openon the female victums have changed from victums to reliant leads to woman how fight back and survie on there own acored.

Explain
In movies such as 'The Cabinet of Doctor Caligar' the female victim, Jane, is that a victim. Her acting is over dramatic and every time there is the slights bit of panic she faints. This was expected at the time of the films released, because the woman should be dependent on the men in their lives for survival. Compared to the more recent film 'Scream' were the main girl, Cidny, is not a helpless victim at all, she fights agents the killers. The movie Scream create the rules of Horror films and reefers too many other earlier horror film. The rules were what the audience expected at the time.
"1.Don't have sex
2.Don't do drugs or drink
3.Don't say I'll be back because you won't be"

The ‘rules of horror’ are all said by the horror movie fanatic Randy. The horror rules were all broken within the next couple of minutes after mentioned. If any of these rules where broken by the female victim in this horror genre they would be attacked and sometimes die.

HORROR Movies

Describe

There is a large change between the female victims/leads in movies like The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari and the movie Scream. Such as after Psycho in 1960 and Rosemary's Baby in 1968 the females started fighting back against the killer/monster but are still have no control over their own lives. In Robert Weine's film The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari released in 1919 the female is extremely reliant on the male lead, Alan, for survival. Another big change was when the lead role stopped being a man but a woman this started when the females started to fight back agents the evil in the film. Up until Was Craven, Scream, the female lead would always be saved by the 'big strong man', making here completely reliant on him, this cycle was broken by a character named Gail Weathers who shot one of the killers in the head.

TRANSITIONS + LENGTH OF TAKES

The start when the ship are flying towards the other plant it looks as if the are traveling in slow motion this efficacies that this is the first time they have traveled this far out into space. It shows how ignorant the human rase is and links into the story line. Another example is that when it changes from the back story to the class room the transition is when it takes a pitcher and then it zooms out a little bit and then the pitcher becomes on a screen. This effect allows you to understand where the narrator is. It also reinforces the fact that this is in the future.

SHOT SIZE/ANGLE+CAMERA MOVEMENT

In part of beginning scene the camera is on the teacher which you find out soon after that it’s the main character dream and that she fears the teacher this is reinforced with the fact that the camera is tilted up witch makes the teacher seem bigger and more threatening. In the part when the ships are travailing to a different galaxy the shot is long shot. This shows you that they are really in a different galaxy, this reinforces the fact that it is a sci-fi move.

SCRIPT/DIALOGUE

In the start of the film the dialogue is spoken as if the way we speak is changed over the years "we were so many" it like the way we have changed from our ancestors in the way we speak they have changed from the way we speak. It reinforces the idea that this move is seat in the future. Another example of dialogue in the start of this movie is when you get introduced to the idea that there government is not as good as it seems “where not trying to show people what to think, where just trying to show them how" this is the bases for the mane idea of the move.

SPECIAL EFFECTS

In the very beginning the universal studios logo slowly tints gray after the words are gone this shows the pasting of time as the plant gets older and more piloted. This special effect is animation. As the ships leave the plant and go out into space, is another example of animation because the ship have been created on a computer it allows you to connect what the narrator is saying and the size and stile of the ships this also relates to the TV series FireFly.

GENRE / ATMOPHERE

The tone of this opening sequence to this movie is that it’s going to be a sci-fi movie through the way that the narrator describes it to be in our future. The first part of this scene was made using special effects this is easy to tell because the opening shot is of our plant from space which is no longer green but gray and as the narrator is talking there is a fleet of spaceships leave our plant then you get pitcher of other plants that have gen made using special effects as well. The second part of the opening scene is filmed with unharnessed colure making every thing look brighter then usual. The mode in the opening scene is airy from the way the narrator speaks in a clam, controlled way, it makes it seem like there is something to hide. This foreshadows the plot of the story.

REASON FOR SELECTION

The beginning to the move Serenity is a background to let you understand what will happen later in the move. It tells you about the way that we as the human race have out grown this plant and how we go to another galaxy and find some other plant. It says that we terra-form them and made a universal government. But some of the outer rim plants didn’t want to be a part of that government. Then it cuts to a class room which is obviously in our future and we find that the person that is narrating is the teacher. The class talks about the people that would not conform to their way of living and talk about how they are savage and cannibals. A question about why the don’t become a part of their society comes up and it shows a little girl how says that its human nature to not want to do what there told. This intro/opening scene has a lot of dialog which is explained later on in the movie. I chose this intro/opening scene because I like the move and it is not the same as other movies in the way that it’s more a back round story and tells you what happened in the T.V series firefly.
